Heart & Sole: the Dylan Kalambay story. Calgary Screening

Heart & Sole: the Dylan Kalambay story

Documentary premiere & Q&A panel discussion presented by Canadian Blood Services

Heart & Sole: the Dylan Kalambay story

Film Synopsis: In November of 2020, high school basketball star Dylan Kalambay’s world turned upside down. He experienced heart failure at the young age of 16. Over the next 6 months he had open heart surgery and not long after, thanks to the generosity of an organ donor and their family, Dylan received a life-saving heart transplant. In September of 2021, after a long and challenging recovery, Dylan stepped back onto the court… The film Heart & Sole follows his journey, forward as Dylan continues to pursue his dreams on the court, while off of it he tries to comprehend his second chance at life and his new identity as a transplant recipient.

Heart and Sole features Toronto Raptors world champion and NBA All-Star Pascal Siakam, Philadelphia 76ers head coach Nick Nurse, University of Calgary Dinos head coach Dan Vanhooren, and Toby and Bernadine Boulet, parents of Logan Boulet who inspired more than 100,000 to become registered organ donors following the Humboldt bus crash in 2018.

Directed by Michael Hamilton and Produced by Game Seven Media (@game_7_media), in association with Ridley College, Heart and Sole - the Dylan Kalambay Story is presented by Canadian Blood Services on behalf of Canada’s organ and tissue donation community.

Transplant Next Conversations - Webinar

Participating in Research as a Patient Partner

You are invited to join the World Transplant Games TRANSPLANT NEXT CONVERSATIONS webinar focused on how parents and families can get involved in transplant research.

Kristi Coldwell is the Senior Advisor for Transplant Research Advocacy at the Transplant Research Foundation of BC.

Having undergone a heart transplant as a teenager due to congenital heart disease, Kristi is acutely aware of the role research plays in improving outcomes and enhancing quality of life.

She believes patients and caregivers have an important role in shaping and informing health research to ensure it is meaningful and accountable to all stakeholders.

Elaine Yong is, first and foremost, the mother of a pediatric heart transplant recipient.

She is also actively involved in research as a patient partner with the Canadian Donation and Transplant Research Program and several specific research projects. Elaine sits on the board of the Transplant Research Foundation of B.C., actively fundraising to support pediatric transplant research.

Professionally, she is currently the Manager of Communications and Community Engagement at BC Transplant. Elaine was an award winning journalist before moving into healthcare communications in 2015.
