Canadian Transplant Games

Prepare to be awestruck, moved to tears, and overjoyed with delight as you watch hundreds of transplant recipients of all ages compete to the best of their ability in a range of sports and events. Held every two years* in a different Canadian city, the Canadian Transplant games are a signature event for the CTA that many in the transplant community attend.

The Canadian Transplant Games are the premiere athletic celebration of sport for transplant recipients from across the country. The focus of the Games is to provide a venue of national competition. For many, it is also a chance to prepare for the World Transplant Games. Every athlete and skill level is welcome. For everyone, just crossing the finish line is already a victory.

The other goal of the Games is to encourage Canadians to register their consent as organ donors. There are currently more than 4,000 people in our country waiting for their gift of life. Some of them will die while waiting. Let’s give hope to those waiting for transplant by using the Canadian Transplant Games and our athletes' accomplishments as a platform to raise awareness of the benefits of organ donation.

In addition to transplant recipients, our attendees also include donor families and living donors. We strive to honour their gift of life with special events throughout the week.

We can’t wait to welcome all of you and your supporters to the next games in Ottawa, August 3-9, 2024. Visit our 2024 CTA Games page for details.

World Transplant Games

Established in 1978, the World Transplant Games Federation is a worldwide organization with representation from more than 60 countries that celebrates successful transplantation and the gift of life through unique and inspiring events – namely the Summer and Winter World Transplant Games.

The principle aim of the World Transplant Games is to raise public awareness of the importance and benefits of organ donation. This is done by demonstrating the health and fitness that can be achieved post-transplant. Equally, the World Games aim to encourage all recipients to remain fit and healthy post transplant. Athletes are our ambassadors for the value of organ donation and give hope to people on transplant waiting lists.

The World Transplant Games give recipients the motivation to strive towards full rehabilitation through exercise, camaraderie and healthy living. They also provide them with a way of saying ‘thank you’ to those who made it all possible – the donors, their families, health professionals, researchers and carers - without them, there would be nobody at the starting line.
